"I think the greatest gift Darcy gave me in her services as a postpartum doula was confidence in my abilities as a mother. At 2-3 weeks as a first time mom, that’s very hard to come by and it makes a huge difference in navigating the day-to-day ups and downs of these first few weeks. My biggest concern was about feeding our son; was I feeding him enough or too much? If he started crying an hour after his last feeding, could he really be hungry or was there something else going on? It seems everybody has an opinion on how you should feed your baby, by a schedule or on demand, and sorting through what made sense with our son had left me feeling completely overwhelmed. I really appreciated that Darcy didn’t try to add her opinion into the mix. She listened to what I had observed with our son and what my basic gut instincts were telling me, and then she helped provide the information and support I needed to start following up on that. The observations she made on how she knew he was ready to feed (before he got to the frantic stage!) were invaluable. With her help, I had the easiest and calmest feeding I’ve ever had with him – and since I’ve started looking for the cues she pointed out, each successive feeding I’ve done on my own has gone much more smoothly. I highly recommend Darcy’s services for any new mother. Her very knowledgeable, practical, and supportive approach really helps calm your anxieties and restore your confidence that you can be a good mom!"
